I’m a storyteller, researcher, and Bay Area native who’s spent the past decade honing my professional communication experience mixed with academic excellence to evoke organizational change and effectiveness.

I’m Marcus, an academic and professional in communication. with over a decade of professional communication experience, I aim to uncover organizational strategies involving internal/external communication, marketing, talent management, thought leadership, change management, and resource management. I excel in leading multi-channel communications teams, creating meaningful organizational messages, and fostering bonds between industry leaders and executives.

During my masters program, I studied all aspects of Social Determinants of Health, health disparities, organizational effectiveness, and relational maintenance. My research focused heavily on how people with different social backgrounds seek access to healthcare and how their quality of care differs. I also focused on organizational effectiveness, primarily in a healthcare setting, understanding the boundaries to healthcare efficiency and operational success. I have experience teaching communication and digital marketing, health campaigns, and professional writing at San Diego State University.

My Professional career spans over a decade and touches multiple industries (e.g., Healthcare, Entertainment, Telecommunication, Realty). During my tenure as communications professional, I’ve come to realize that communication is different in every field. In telecommunication and healthcare, it focuses directly on innovation, technology, and the next step for future generations. They encompass a moving forward tenet, that aims to bring communities together and bring about solutions to previous, current, and future societal problems. Entertainment, focuses heavily on stepping away from societal stressors and being more engaged in current state of happiness and unawareness of outside pressures. In each position, I bridged the gap between academia and professional success, incorporating new understandings of strategic communication.

As the divide between organization and community becomes more apparent, the importance of my professional and academic experience becomes more evident. By understanding how to cultivate supportive environments in an organizational setting, we can mitigate the negative effects of societal stressors and community resentment, and promote positive working environments that encourages organizational change and effectiveness.
