Verizon is one the nations (US) largest telecommunication companies. With inspiring innovations such as 5G home and wireless, or emergency coverage in rural areas, Verizon continues leading the conversation behind technology and success. I had the pleasure of working on many projects during the initial role out of 5G home and internet. Many of the projects were informative and based on educating the public about the innovation that 5G will bring to the progression of our communities.

Verizon does not settle for being the second best and continuously strives for the top spot. Uncertiainty around 5G drew speculations from all corners of our consumer base. The main concern with 5G was the lack of understanding about how the network could affect our health outcomes. My priority as a communications lead, was to create the narrative around 5G and how it benefits all communities, and does not negatively affect health comes (with moderate usage). I uncovered stories across the nation of people saying 5G cased cancer, harmed wild life, and produced harmful waves. The communications and marketing teams partnered with local communities to showcase the 5G experience and provide factual information that helped educate individuals on what 5G is and is not capable of.
This role played a pivotal part in the flow of information internally and externally. Managing uncertainty was not factor solely placed on our consumer group; it also sparked internal questions as well. Our priority on the comms team was to make sure information we communicated reflected Verizons values and commitment to the community and technological advancement.
One of the largest internal projects I worked on was the training implementation of Verizons 5G store training guide. Apart from the external aspect of answering questions from curious customers, our goal was to maintain a strong knowledge base regarding the technology behind 5G. We were tasked with creating internal fact sheets that provided the necessary trainings and technological FAQs regarding 5G.
What was the difference between 5G nationwide and 5G Ultra Wideband? Although both had the term 5G in it, Ultra Wideband had access to a different spectrum of speeds and services. 5G Nationwide was meant to support broad areas across the nation, increasing speeds, connectivity, and quality. 5G Ultra Wideband accessed a different spectrum of signals that far increased the speeds of electronic devices, provided a higher quality of connectivity, and provided a technological advancement in areas beyond cellular devices.
With the advancement of 5G, Verizon not only remained the nations most reliable network, but the fastest network available. 5G is not just about performance, it was a generational leap for technology. Verizon was the first major telecommunications provider to receive a 5G data transmission through a cellular device on commercial 3GPP 5G New Radio (NR) network.
Verizons communications team is expansive, covering different regions in the US and globally. As an integrated comms lead, I had the pleasure working cross-functionally with many groups within Verizon. Verizon had an internal and external weekly blog call VZW up to speed. This internal blog encapsulated industry and organizational updates for our frontline team members. I sourced news materials from around the country, mainly focusing on the west coast, and compiled them into the weekly blog. This was not an individual project and had multiple contributors involved in the writing and content development. like many other internal comm projects, these weekly blogs improved the flow of communication within the organization.
